Station ready to open
IT HAS been $10 million in the making, but the Noosa Junction Station, formerly known as the transit centre, is set to be officially opened on Sunday, August 28.
Designed to help rejuvenate the Junction as a key destination area and reduce traffic congestion in Hastings St, its construction has been sometimes a rough ride for local retailers, with public disruptions not helped by the constant rain.
The station is a combined funding project of the Federal and State governments with the Sunshine Coast Council and Cr Russell Green said TransLink was planning the community open day on August 28, from 10am to 2pm, with family friendly entertainment and information stalls on site. This is after the 9am opening ceremony.
Cr Green said the TransLink bus services would start the following day with the company advising that there were planned changes to bus timetables in the local area.
Translink website states: will always let customers know well in advance about any changes through this website and advertising in local papers
Translink says the station is designed to encourage more people to use public transport, make bus services in the area more efficient and on time, provide i timberland ncreased capacity for future public transport requirements and improve the Noosa Junction precinct.
The facility will accommodate seven bus stops split across two platforms, with shelters acoustically designed to reduce noise, set in a large public space with landscaped, open air courtyards.
The station will include an information pod with tourist and travel information, public toilets, bicycle storage, ride drop off and pick up areas as well as bus driver facilities.
Meanwhile, Cr Green said he would host planning forums throughout the Noosa region in September which would detail how the new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme would eventually replace the 2006 Noosa Plan.
A preliminary draft, which was also to supersede the old Maroochy and Caloundra planning schemes, had been sent to the State Government for consideration and would be the subject of regional consultation.
